Once upon a time, youth in Romania used to celebrate not Valentine’s day, but a more locally specific version of it.
The day of the lovers or “Dragobete” [ you can't really translate the word ], was a day of feasting, hope, and especially, the day the bear used to come out of hibernation for the first time in that year.
